Highschool Musical

Highschool Musical is one of the most successful Disney Channel Original Movies ever made. The movie was released on January 20th, 2006 and almost immediately became a favorite with highschool age movie watchers. The Highschool Musical soundtrack was the best-selling album of 2006 in the United States.

The movie was filmed almost entirely in the Wasatch Front in Utah. The plot of the movie has been described as a modern day Romeo & Juliet story. The movie soundtrack has been equally as successful, with such fan favorites as "Breaking Free" sung by characters Troy and Gabriella.

The premier of the sequel, Highschool Musical 2, was even more successful than the first film, drawing in a total of 17.3 million viewers in the United States -- nearly 10 million more than Highschool Musical -- making it, at the time, the highest-rated basic-cable broadcast in United States history.
